Brazilian and US scientists are looking into the possibility of using spider venom as a way of boosting the strength and duration of the male erection. The investigation follows reports that men bitten by the highly venomous Brazilian wandering spider experienced priapism – a condition that results in long lasting erections.

A two-year study has found that the venom contains a toxin, called Tx2-6, that causes the condition. Researchers interviewed several men who testified that their sex lives improved after being bitten by the spider, due to a capability to achieve strong and lasting erections. Further tests are being carried out in the US before the substance can be approved for human use.
