ED, Viagra Use in Movies

Since Viagra became the most popular drug for erection disorder treatment, media has not been shy about its perception and mirth at Viagra use and men who have erectile dysfunction. Erection problems can be a pain, and can be seriously damaging to most men, but somehow, seeing the parodies of Viagra use and erection disorders in movies takes the edge off. For a reason, the idea of men gleefully getting hard or using Viagra as a prank tickles a lot of people.

Here are some popular movies that featured Viagra use or erection disorders.

Tom Cats (2001) – Some well meaning fellow placed a few tablets of ground Viagra in a bottle of wine intended for the newly wed’s honeymoon, but the gesture resulted in a few tipsy and utterly embarrassed groomsmen showing huge erections during the wedding ceremony. The funniest scene included the hesitation of the groomsmen to go to the altar, and when they finally did (with their hardened members standing at attention).

What Women Want (2000) – When the main character, Nick (Mel Gibson) found out that he can hear women’s thoughts, he experienced performance anxiety during sex with a sultry barista who has a crush on him. Nick excused himself to go to the bathroom wherein he simultaneously reprimanded his little soldier about the job at hand.

40 Days and 40 Nights (2002) – After a bitter breakup, Matt Sullivan (Josh Hartnett) took on the seemingly impossible dare to go celibate for 40 days and 40 nights. His friends, who betted against his vow, put Viagra in his drink to make the task even more difficult. An older colleague drank the OJ by mistake and was last seen pleasuring himself over a porn magazine in the men’s room.

Prevention of Erection Disorders: Mental and Psychological Conditioning

Perhaps most of us have heard of the phrase “prevention is better than cure”. This phrase is particularly true in sexual problems. How does a man apply this phrase to his sexual dysfunction? Is there a way to prevent erection disorder from happening?

Identification of the risk factors of erection problems is the primary step to finding out how to prevent impotence from happening, now or in the future. What are risk factors? A risk factor is something that increases one’s chances of contracting a disease. Often times, this risk comes from something that is self inflicted, or a daily activity that a man does. One example is spending too much time in bars and eating fat-heavy food during meal time or whenever he feels like it. Alcohol and Obesity are risk factors of erection disorders. Smoking also increases a man’s chances of developing erection problems. Smoke components constrict blood vessels, leading to reduced blood flow

Age is a primary risk factor to many diseases, including erectile dysfunction. Even if we cannot do anything about time passing by, we can keep ourselves young at heart and in body by improving our self esteem, physical health and psychological well-being.

In a sense, ED drugs, sildenafil and other herbal remedies (like the Herbal Blue Pill) are there to give temporary help for erectile dysfunction, particularly for those who need it immediately. However, there is no substitute to being healthy in body and spirit. Fun loving people rarely show symptoms of depression, which is also a relevant risk factor of impotence.

On China Pollution, Viagra and The Olympics

Viagra is not in the List of Prohibited Substances in the Olympics 2008
It is official. Viagra is not included in the list of prohibited substances in the Olympics this year (2008). One advisor of the committee is Brazilian Eduardo de Rose, who is the president of the medical commission of the Pan-American Sports Organization (PASO). In an interview, he said, “Scientifically, the only proof that Viagra improves sports performance happened at high altitude. That is why it was decided not to include it in the list,” and “You will hardly get to play a football match on Mount Everest,” he graphically concluded. (source)

Most of the sports played in the Olympics may be indoors but a certain number of sports will be held outdoors, pushing athletes right into the arms of the thick Beijing smog. Another article in Bangkokpost.com reports that with the opening of the Olympics just days away, China is coming up with measures to stem the pollution in the city during the games (i.e. temporary suspension of factory operations) to accommodate the athletes and ensure their health. (source)

The reports mentioned above all point to the fact that Viagra could be used (or abused) by some athletes during the Olympic games of 2008, to give them unfair advantage over the others under conditions of extreme pollution. Sildenafil citrate (Viagra) has gained its reputation as a sex drug which temporarily alleviates impotence in men with erection problems, but its effect on oxygen delivery to the different organ systems, particularly the lungs, may lead unethical athletes to use it during the games.

Exercise and Erection: Kegel for Staying Power

Kegels (named after the gynaecologist, Dr Arnold Kegel) are thigh exercises used to strengthen the pubococcygeal muscle and other muscles of the pelvic diaphragm. This is commonly recommended in pregnant females to strengthen their birthing muscles, but these can also be used by men to maintain a lasting erection during sex. Studies have shown that having control of the pelvis will give a guy significant benefits for the problem of premature ejaculation.

How to Do the Kegel Exercise:
Start out relaxed and sitting straight, and then tighten the muscles in the general pelvis area for a few seconds at a time. Repeat. The real test of getting it right comes during urination. Those who successfully identified the target muscles initially should be able to stop their urine flow at midstream for a few seconds. With practice, a man should be able to tighten the anal muscles without squeezing the muscles on his rear. There are several ways to do kegels, and these are:
Do 15 repetitions of Quick Pumps, pause for 30 seconds and repeat, a guy can start at 15 and work his way up to 100 twice a day.

Contract slowly and hold for 5 seconds, release slowly. Work your way to at least 25 repetitions two times a day.

One long contraction, but with several pauses – Slowly contract a third of the way, pause, then continue two-thirds of the way, pause again, then go all the way (10 repetitions, twice times a day)
Kegel enthusiasts have long promoted this thigh exercise to obtain better quality orgasms and more powerful thrusts (I,e, obvious and sustained thickness of the penis). Multiple orgasm and G spot phenomenon in women continue to be regarded as myths, but men too, have their share of sexual prowess urban legends; one of which is the male multiple orgasm.

Whether this is true or not depends entirely on those men who claim that they have tried it. Obtaining optimum muscle strength will help a lot in sexual stamina.

Pelvic floor exercises may help men with erectile dysfunction bring their youthful vigour back in the bedroom. Kegel exercises used in tandem with Herbal Viagra might just be the combination that aging men are looking for to increase their sex drive. Cheap viagra remains the best way to combat impotence.

Secret No More: The Need for an Effective ED Treatment

. Secret No More: The Need for an Effective ED Treatment
As Viagra celebrated its 10th year anniversary this year (March) many discussions opened up about the status of erection disorder treatment had Viagra not been accidentally created. This ‘accidental’ drug was created during the testing and development of a drug aimed at getting more blood to the heart to prevent cardiovascular attacks. While the drug sildenafil (Viagra) did not make blood rush to the cardiac region of heart attack patients, it suffused the penis with blood, enabling lasting and rock hard erections.

Erection problems during the time when no ready drug was available to treat it did not surface much or get publicized, probably because of the nature of the only available erectile dysfunction treatments during that time (surgery, injections and psychiatric treatments). These other treatments were availed of by men under extreme conditions (prostate and testicular cancer, severe penile injury etc), but not by ordinary men who might be secretly suffering from sexual dysfunction due to various reasons (age, stress, anxiety, depression, smoking, alcohol and financial problems). Ten years after Viagra was born, men are more open about the possibility that what they have is not just psychological but a physical condition that can be treated with an effective drug.

The star status of Viagra among prescription drugs was largely due to the fact that it made it easier for men to identify with those who have professed their loyalty and excitement at being able to make love properly again. Suddenly, being unable to perform in bed has become less of a secret, personal problem and more of a worldwide dilemma. Men have started coming out of the closet about their impotence and sharing experiences with other Viagra users.

Herbal Viagra shares a significant part in this issue in that it does not have the same adverse effects as synthetic ED drugs. In this sense, men have a choice. ED medication, like all drugs, have related risks, but with proper information dissemination, men can now opt for the cheaper and most cost effective ED drugs. Buy Viagra and feel the difference

Media and Men Issues: Impotence and Prostate Cancer

The role of media in increasing awareness of impotence and other men’s health issues is significant because it communicates to men worldwide that their erection problems or bodily pains could be a non-isolated case. Men are proud creatures, and their roles in society have added to their self esteem. Being the family’s provider and the leader in a relationship has made men more wary to talk about weaknesses with others, much less sexual disorders.

One case study of information dissemination through media aimed to explore the popular press coverage of two men’s health issues, prostate cancer and impotence, in four magazines with large male readerships. The four magazines included in the study were Gentleman’s Quarterly, Esquire, Men’s Health and Ebony, published between 1991 and 2000. Content was compared between the first half and the second half of the decade, which highlighted a cancer public education campaign, the release of the impotence drug, Viagra (sildenafil citrate), and the surge in magazine advertising revenue from drug companies. During the time when rumors of a drug that increased libido surfaced, the media zeroed in on the worldwide clamor for this drug’s FDA approval. There is no denying that the need for Viagra is there.

Results of the case study showed that the four magazines ran more articles on prostate cancer and impotence after 1995; and the coverage was usually presented in an informational manner; content provided information on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the diseases. Men wrote most of the stories. Viagra is still a relatively new drug, and its long term effects on men are still being observed. The arrival and subsequent increase in the demand for Viagra alternatives, cheap Viagra and herbal Viagra indicate how the public can identify sildenafil viagra’s main disadvantages: side effects and expensive price.

More Herbal Medicines Tested for Erectile Dysfunction Treatment

Traditional medicine experts in Zulu have long claimed that the extracts and decoctions from the roots of Eriosema kraussianum (family Fabaceae) and some other Eriosema species (uBangalala, common name, indigenous to Zulu region) are effective herbal remedies for alleviating erection problems in males. The mechanism of action, or how these extracts act on physiological processes to promote erection was evaluated using laboratory animals.

As with most experiments on probable sources of erection promoting drugs, the benchmark (positive control treatment) has always been Viagra, the wonder drug accidentally discovered during the 1990s to have a profound effect on male sexual function and erection quality during lovemaking.

Extracts from these plants were compared with sildenafil citrate in terms of erection responses in the animal models; and their effects on blood glucose reduction, possibly to test for hypoglycaemic effects (antidiabetes). Results suggested that the water-alcohol extracts from these plants showed hypoglycaemic and secondary, vasorelaxant effects, while Viagra only showed vasorelaxant effects.

It has only been 10 years since people have come to know Viagra and the implications of its continuous popularity. Why buy Viagra? Is there a problem with your sex life? In the past, some may still have been embarrassed to answer ‘yes’, but now, men and women alike have caught on and realized that maybe doing something about their sex life can lead to a happier union. With divorce being implemented in different countries, anything that helps save a marriage should be magnified and tried. Intimacy between husband and wife, particularly during the middle age crisis, is very important.

Viagra, Wound Healing and More Herbal Aphrodisiac Studies

Following its introduction to the pharmaceutical world and mainstream culture, numerous studies have been conducted to determine other uses for the drug Viagra. Curiosity about this drug prompted companies to investigate the overall short term and long term effects of this drug on men users. Here are some of these studies:

- Wound Healing. In vitro and in vivo studies were conducted to characterize the effects of sildenafil citrate (trademark viagra) on the histopathological variations during the wound healing process (via angiogenesis) in dogs and to compare the vasodilatatory effects of sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside. Results showed that the relative vasorelaxant effects increased from lowest to highest with sildenafil citrate, acetylcholine and sodium nitroprusside, respectively. Results of the study indicate that sildenafil citrate could enhance the healing process by stimulating angiogenesis. (Acta Veterinaria Brno, 2003, Vol. 72, No. 2, pp. 273-277)

- Casimiroa edulis – In laboratory animals, the mating responses and behaviors under sildenafil citrate (Viagra) treatment and administration with Casimiroa edulis seed extract were evaluated. The following traits were tested: mounting frequency, intromission frequency, mounting latency, intromission latency, ejaculatory latency and post-ejaculatory interval. Results suggest that these two substances have the same mode of action.

- Cordyceps sinensis a medicinal product under the traditional Tibetan and Chinese medicine is named “Himalayan Viagra” in the west because of its clinically proven effects on: sexual function; alleviation of amnesia; improvement of chronic bronchitis and asthma; and reduction of cancerous tumour size. (Tropical Resources: Bulletin of the Yale Tropical Resources Institute, 2007, Vol. 26, pp. 63-69)
